“ Throughout modern history, man has searched for lost treasure. Many countries have lost these treasures, whether it be from acts of nature or acts of man. This coin is a prime example of such an action. It, and many like it, have been recovered from around the world so that you may enjoy their everlasting beauty and their ties to history. Coins minted from silver were clipped to the proper weight (1/4,1/2, 1, 2, 4, 8.) These silver coins were called “reales.” Gold coins were minted and called “escudos.” Spanish Colonial Coinage was minted in Spain and many Spanish colonies from the mid-1500’s through the mid 1800’s. For more than 200 years, Spanish Gold and Silver coins were considered “Coins of the Realm.”
