The Dutch East Indiaman (VOC) Rooswijk, sank off the English coast on the Goodwin Sands.  All hands were lost during the month of December 1739.  The ship carried cargo consisting of silver specie and silver ingots for trading in the East Indies.  The Rooswijk belonged to the Regional Chamber of Amsterdam.  The remains of the ship were found during significant movement of sand which had covered it for centuries.  The excavation was carried out by a professional archaeological team in 2005.
